How It Came To Be…
The Clients had been captivated as they observed Shannon Leigh creating painting commissions from her Franklin, TN studio. When they made the decision that it was their turn, they approached her with a formidable request: "Can you create a statement painting representing approximately 30 or so of our friends, in a ball room setting with a party atmosphere?" Shannon replied with a resounding "yes", because she had never painted anything of the sort. So, it was off to the drawing board where three iterations were conceived. The first resembled a scene out of "The Shining". The second had the feel of a posed photograph. The third and final version was an exact replication of a cocktail party at Laurel Hill.
With the reins wholly in her hands, and with the bonus of actually knowing most in the cast, a representation of relationships, community, and leadership unfolded onto the canvas. Over a period of two months of Shannon laser focused on creating this unique piece. The Clients made a few studio visits to help Shannon capture the essence of each person depicted. Grateful for the participation and based upon this collaboration, a new approach to the Southern Portrait was born.
On May 21, 2021,“Designing the Future at Laurel Hill” made it’s debut to the surprised guests of honor, in the salon at Laurel Hill.
How It Came To Be…
They came to the Scottsdale Celebration of Fine Art to visit friends and enjoy the art, himself adorned with a Porsche logo cap that caught my eye. Turned out his was a Lava Orange 911 Turbo Cabriolet and… he had won it! (That’s right friends, play the right golf tournaments and a hole-in-one could land you one of these babies!) That day, the very car was in the parking lot and I asked if they’d mind if I took a few photos. A few weeks passed, and back in my booth came herself asking if I remembered photographing their car. Indeed I did, as I had already sketched it up… would she like to see it? It was loved at first sight and she would purchase it when complete as a surprise to her husband. We picked the canvas size, 24” x 30” and I went to work. We made the 007 exchange of “Hot Lava” in the parking lot of AJ’s Grocery, and back at their house the surprise was priceless. What turned out to be a very special gift to him from her, was a win for us all. I LOVE a Good Golf Story!
